Giant Google Android Robot and Bar Dome/Ceiling Cladding in GRP

2012 GSMA Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain 27th Feb - 1st Mar

For the second year running Design & Display Structures have been asked by clients PDQ Exhibitions to carry out the GRP installation of two key Android style features required at the GSMA Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain starting 27 February. link

Details from the previous year below:

Located on the Google Inc booth hall 8.0 stand 8C25 above the reception bar a 9m GRP dome was manufactured in modular segments and wire suspended from the ceiling structure. A curved modular suspended GRP ceiling to the underside with downlighters completed the effect.

In the middle area proudly stood a giant 4m tall GRP android robot around which a helical stainless steel slide provided much amusement for visitors as they travelled from balcony to ground level.

The exhibition expected some 50,000 senior mobile leaders from 200 countries to attend, getting the chance to grab thirst quenching refreshments at the popular android smoothie bar.

Once D&D had created the design they worked closely with pattern makers Wallop Woodcrafts to turn the tooling element of the works around in an extraordinary quick time to meet tight project deadlines.

Following the exhibition D&D took down both modular GRP structures so that they can be packaged, stored in the UK and reused at future exhibition stands and other venues.
