Guildhall Library Roof Refurbishment - City of London
Light transmitting thermally insulated rooflights x 56 No
Design & Display Structures were employed directly by The City of London to provide new thermally efficient rooflights for the Guildhall library roof refurbishment project.
56 No pyramidal shaped rooflights each 1.5m tall x 1.3m sq base were required to be designed, manufactured and installed upon a concrete coffer ceiling structure.
Being a prominent feature viewed both from surrounding offices as well as inside the library the City of London required a solution which provided the maximum light transmission with thermal performance to meet building regulations.
D&D researched a solution and presented sample construction configurations which won client approval.
The library was already in operation containing valuable books that clearly could not get wet. D&D liaised closely with the main roofing contractor so that rain water penetration through the formed roof voids was avoided.
Assembled in the factory environment as composite modular construction with transparent thermal insulation secured in place the units were delivered to site, lifted to roof level and swiftly installed.
Once again Design & Display Structures pulled out all the stops, working closely with Richard Litherland and Sheila Huntley, to achieve the clients fast track programme which was capped by the library reopening date set in stone.
