Oldham Central Mosque

Dome with drums and decorative inner dome / drum liners

Design & Display Structures have installed a major dome contract at Oldham Central Mosque, Dew Way, OL9 6BB

The contract required a complete scheme i.e. double curved GRP outer dome, GRP inner liner, internal supporting steelwork, finials and GRP perimeter drum cladding below with formed reveals for glazed windows.

The dome is a huge 10m diameter and the external panels are in a translucent finish (Green/Blue mix blend from Llewellyn Ryland) giving a glass light appearance. On the inside are multicolour decorated features in relief which will impress visitors from far and wide.

The features are created from modular GRP sections, fully finished and predrilled in the factory environment before being delivered to site, assembled at ground level and crane lifted into position. This method contributes to reducing our carbon footprint through reduced transportation, travel and labour time spent on site whilst reducing the loads on the main building.

A smaller dome to the main entrance completes the installation of all works for October 2011.
