Stoke Park Rotunda refurbishment project
Faithful GRP reproductions of the original fluted columns with ornate capitals
Design & Display Structures were appointed by Mark Rose Builders to assist in the refurbishment of the Rotunda at Stoke Park Luxury Hotel, Spa, Golf and Country Club in Buckinghamshire.
Over time the original timber columns had rotted and twisted in a variety on undesirable ways.
D&D took the best of the timber elements, refurbished them to make a single piece of patternwork suitable for taking moulds from. This enabled 16 No reproduction fluted columns with ornate capitals to be manufactured. Final factory preparation involved removing the vertical joints and priming them ready for final decoration.
In addition, as the original columns were structural, D&D bonded in central post members to provide additional support to the circular roof over and pattresses at the correct height to provide connection points for the attachment of refurbished metal balustrading.
The works were installed during October 2012.
