Project Information:
This mathematical Voronoi pattern sculpture suspended in front of glazing is Design & Display Structures latest exciting bespoke GRP project and provides solar shading to the three storey atrium.
CAD designed including FEA and manufactured in transport manageable cell components it was carefully shipped, assembled on site and installed using a single crane lift at the University of Bristol Fry Building.
The weight saving over steel, the originally considered material, is significant and contributes to reducing loads on the background support structures. The bespoke fibreglass screen comprises 122 unique cells and is cantilevered out on just a few horizontal PFCs with the hanging process requiring close engineering and positioning coordination between D&D and Novum glazing systems.
D&D were awarded the contract by Balfour Beatty UKCS and the Architect is WilkinsonEyre.
